Is this the future of cruise ships? Instead of opulent restaurants, urban gardens, glass exteriors, and "social spaces" are used.

It may resemble a spaceship from the future, but in 100 years it very well may be how people travel by water.

MEYER Group

Millions of tourists are still drawn to the seven seas each year by its timeless charm, but for some, the prospect of living in a floating city with a few thousand strangers is less than ideal. Here comes Meyer Group, a forward-thinking shipbuilding firm that is focused on the future of cruising.

The Meyer Group gave attendees of a significant international cruise trade show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, an alluring preview of how vacations may appear in two hundred years.

The new design is an aerodynamic, sculptural, futuristic, space-like interpretation of the conventional cruise ship. The upper levels are encased in glass, and urban gardens place visitors amid nature and the sea.

According to Meyer Group's head of concept development Tim Krug, "The ship is based on global megatrends and is one - but not the only - logical response to them. Because we anticipate that a significant portion of the nutrients would be ingested in a concentrated form, such as tablets, we have, for instance, only planned for modest restaurant sections that function more as social gathering places.

That might seem a little improbable but bear with us.

“From a modern perspective, we occasionally propose extreme solutions, but it is equally important to consider them and draw conclusions from them.”

The cruise liner idea also depends on new forms of energy, harnessing wind, solar, and fuel cell power and wave energy through horizontal wings on the hull. Fossil fuels are no longer required as a result.

The Meyer Group has developed several intriguing aquatic concepts. The Silver Nova cruise ship, built this year for Silversea Cruises and intended to set new benchmarks in technology and design, is being delivered by the crew. The Royal Caribbean Group is then building the biggest cruise ship in the world, and it will have cutting-edge entertainment.
Another ship for TUI Cruises will be among the first in the future to be prepared for methanol and green methanol, making its operation nearly carbon neutral.

To improve its reputation, the cruise industry has seen several intriguing changes recently. For example, ports like Venice, Santorini, Barcelona, and Amsterdam have restricted or outright forbidden guests from disembarking cruise ships in their vicinity.

The Orient Express Silenseas, the next phase of its heritage, was inaugurated in January, 140 years after the start of its trains. At a time when cruise popularity is at an all-time high and all the indications indicate this is only likely to grow, the unveiling of the ship was a significant milestone in the top-shelf tourism business.

Would you board a ship if this was the future of travel?
