Even though King Charles III's coronation day occurs on the weekend, on Saturday, May 6, 2023, the UK government has declared Monday, May 8, 2023, to be an official, additional public holiday in honor of the occasion.

It was declared that the UK would observe a vacation on Sunday, November 6, 2022. With the additional day off coming just one week after the early May Bank Holiday on Monday, May 1, 2023, there will be a total of nine bank holidays in 2023.

The inauguration of a new ruler is a special occasion for our nation, according to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. I'm happy to declare that the entire United Kingdom will have an extra bank holiday the following year in honor of this momentous occasion.

I'm looking forward to seeing people join together to honor King Charles III by taking part in regional and national events across the nation," he added.

Monarch Charles III will be honored with many activities in London, including public celebrations all over the nation's capital. A national day of volunteerism has also been declared, and The Big Lunch, organized in partnership with the Eden Project, inspires people to gather together and honor local communities. To find the best way to celebrate, indulge in afternoon tea, visit one of London's top parks, or keep a watch on your council's website.

On what day was King Charles III crowned?

On Saturday, May 6, at Westminster Abbey, where the service has been held for more than 900 years, the formal crowning will take place.

What will take place on the inauguration day?

The Archbishop of Canterbury leads a devotional ceremony during a coronation. In front of leaders of state, members of parliament, and prominent church figures, the new Sovereign swears a pledge. While seated on King Edward's throne, the Archbishop will anoint, bless, and dedicate the King. He will also receive the orb and scepters.

King Edgar was crowned at Bath Abbey in 973 AD, beginning the crowning ceremony. Since then, every monarch has had a coronation rite of some kind, each one is customized to the tastes of the current king or queen.

King Charles III's inauguration is predicted to draw closer to 2,000 individuals, compared to over 8,000 at Queen Elizabeth's. The precise guest list won't be released until closer to the event, but heads of state, monarchs, and recognizable famous names are anticipated to attend.
