London weekend activities: February 13–February 19, 2023

2023-02-18  Diana Solomon

See our comprehensive guide to the greatest things to do in London all year long for further suggestions; however, please double-check what is open before traveling.

We come up with a ton of things to do in London every week, including methods to help the city's small businesses. These are our best suggestions this week, which range from cultural events to gourmet gatherings.

Things to do this weekend in London

1 Turkey and Syria

1. Prepare meals for Turkey and Syria

This week, take part in a virtual cooking class with renowned chef Yotam Ottolenghi to help raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee. During the question and answer period, Yotam will be cooking his famous charred aubergine dish and you can ask him anything you want about how he became a super-chef. The committee will get 100% of the funds received and use it to help the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the earthquakes in Turkey, Syria, and other countries.

Eventbrite.co.uk is the website.

Starting at £10.

Dates: February 16, Thursday

2 party spirit

2. Get into the celebratory mood

Amazónico, London's most extravagant Latin American eatery, is this week offering Berkeley Square the raucous Rio de Janeiro vibe. Special carnival menus, samba dancers, DJs, and open bars will be welcoming party-loving Londoners into the Brazilian jungle beginning on Friday. The senior chef has created new meals such as spicy tortillas with portions of avocado and pineapple salad, scorching choro tartar, and smoked beef and pig croquettes. For the occasion, Rio-inspired drinks have been made; we recommend the Reina de carnival, which combines Tanqueray 10, coconut, strawberry, raspberry, and lime.

Address: 10 Berkeley Square, London W1J 6BR, Amazonico London

3 Valentine's bunch

3. Gather Valentine's bouquet.

Bloom & Wild is here to make your Valentine's Day special, whether it is a multi-course meal at one of London's most romantic restaurants or a cozy evening in front of the newest binge-worthy program. Visit the flowery King's Cross pop-up at any time starting at 8 am to pick up a little bouquet and a blank card, perfect for expressing your love for that special someone, whomever they may be. You may enter to win a year's worth of flower delivery if you take a photo and post it to Instagram with the hashtag @bloomandwild.

Tuesday, February 14, starting at 8 a.m.

4 Sip on sunshine-fuelled flavours

4. Indulge in flavors fueled by sunshine.

This summer, are you considering a trip to Portugal? You could find all the inspiration you want at the trendiest new bar in the City of London. Only the best bottles of wine, obtained from all of Portugal's vineyards, are kept on the shelves at Bar 1790, except for a few Champagnes and one errant bottle of English sparkling wine. The bar was founded in the same year that George Sandeman opened a wine shop on Birchin Lane and began importing Ports and Sherries from Portugal and Spain. The basements George lived in from 1805 on are currently among the most secluded private dining rooms in the city, with enough for 16. Salt cod croquettes, prawn skewers, and classic custard tarts are the ideal snacks to graze on while sipping sweet beverages from a long tapas menu.

Bar 1790 is located at 19-23 St. Swithins Lane in London, EC4N 8AD.

5. Gather for Mardi Gras

5. Attend Mardi Gras.

Southwest London is feeling like New Orleans this week in honor of Mardi Gras, one of the biggest parties in North America. See the sights, sounds, and flavors of the Louisianan metropolis at The Prince, one of the capital's most well-liked indoor-outdoor party venues. There are plenty of slushies and specialty drinks to select from, along with a DJ performance from the event's headlining Nathan Dawe, thanks to a fruity collaboration with Southern Comfort.

6. Embark on a docklands adventure

6. Set out on a docklands excursion

The bad news is that some families' February break has begun, leaving them with an entire week of kid-friendly activities. The Museum of London Docklands is investigating, which is fantastic news. Brave explorers may embark on an expedition around the galleries with the use of a free trail map that was developed in association with Universal International Studios and the BBC. While Dodger is accused of a crime he didn't do and Fagin and the gang make their living on the rough streets of London, help Dodger always keep one step ahead of the authorities. Learn everything about the West India Dock converted 19th-century sugar warehouse as you walk the route and keep an eye out for interesting Victorian-era artifacts on exhibit, such as the carved whalebone crafted by sailor Alexander Munro, perhaps as a loving gesture.

7. Munch on glow-in-the-dark goodies

7. Consume glow-in-the-dark treats

This weekend, a new food market will be making its mark just off Regent Street, creating an immersive, delicious universe. The Robin Collective is a co-curator of Flavourscapes. Get candyfloss burritos, liquid nitrogen-infused ice cream, glow-in-the-dark bao buns, and fondues in a rainbow of colors, among other unusual treats. Tasters are provided everywhere in the market to sway doubtful customers, but it's unlikely that you'll leave empty-handed.

Location: London, Glasshouse Street

Dates: February 17–18, 12–6 p.m.

8. Embrace the humble calçot

8. Accept the modest calçot

Join Morito Hackney Road and El Bandarra for several delicious activities guaranteed to drive away the Sunday frights. In its new themed menu to honor the calçotada holiday, neighborhood eatery Morito has gone mad for calçots, delicious green onions distinctive of Spain's Catalonia region. Staff supply bibs for the messy event as large bunches of the onion are cooked over an open flame until charred, wrapped in newspaper, and then dipped in romesco sauce made from almonds and peppers. The classic calçot dish is one of the five courses on the menu, along with portions of crisp chicory salad and cuttlefish and mussel stew. A tarta de Santiago cake with a dab of sour cream and slices of orange, followed by a delicious Bandarra spritz, marks the conclusion of the proceedings.

Morito can be found at 195 Hackney Road in London, E2 8JL.

9. Discover Notting Hill's newest restaurant

9. Explore the newest eatery in Notting Hill.

A brand-new restaurant in Notting Hill, run by one of the most renowned Turkish chefs in the world, Kemal Demirasal, is bringing some sunshine to the gray days. The Counter is a modern ocakbasi restaurant that serves Kemal's interpretation of Anatolian food. A charcoal-fired mangal oven dominates the kitchen, blazing and smoking the best Turkish ingredients while also filling the chic dining area with a delicious aroma. The satr keema (minced lamb, paprika, isot pepper, and molasses) and the çökertme are two examples of traditional kebabs (beef sirloin and tarragon served with fries, garlic yogurt, and tomato sauce). On the drinks menu, you can try a variety of rakis, which are Turkey's most popular spirits, and wines from underrated vineyards all over the country.

The Counter is located at 108 Golborne Road in London W10 5PS.

10. Enjoy an alternative Valentine's feast

10. Take part in a different Valentine's meal.

This week, the Soho restaurant Bocca di Lupo is bustling with Valentine's Day vibes thanks to chef-founder Jacob Kenedy's special menu, the "feast of the beekeepers." The takeover honors Saint Valentine's lesser-known bee patronage, sweet-smelling foods coming from the kitchen are liberally infused with various kinds of honey. You may anticipate pork chops marinated in honey and rosemary, pork chops topped with fatty lardo, and spreads of Italian cheeses served with chestnuts and honeycomb. Also, bartenders are adding honey to cocktails. Try a milk, honey, and grappa-based inebriated baby or a relaxing, honey-infused Old Fashioned drink.

Address: 12 Archer Street, London, W1D 7BB Bocca di Lupo

Dates: Until February 14th, 2019.

11. See a Shakespearean classic

11. Attend a Shakespeare play.

Shakespeare's Globe's outdoor pit often remains empty during the winter, but this season, a brand-new production of The Winter's Tale is expected to revolutionize how things are done. The drama moves for the first time between the opulence of the legendary Globe and the safety of the candlelight Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, with the former portraying aristocratic Sicily and the latter a bucolic playground in Bohemia. Members of the Soldiers' Arts Academy, a nonprofit that provides opportunities for active and former military veterans to participate in the arts, play the characters in the Bohemian piece.

Shakespeare's Globe is located at 21 New Globe Street in London, SE1 9DT.
