Park City's Ideal Three-Day Weekend

2022-11-04  Maliyah Mah

America is being discovered by Travel + Leisure one three-day weekend at a time. What to do while visiting Park City, Utah, in a hurry.

Park City boasts

Park City, the most well-known ski resort in Utah, is the ideal starting point for major adventure because it has a small-town atmosphere. The old mining town has attractions for everyone, including top-notch cuisine and even bobsledding, whether you visit in the summer or the winter. Therefore, it is not necessary to be a skier or snowboarder to visit Park City. Of course, you'll also find lots of fresh powder if that's your thing. We have what you need if you've been hankering for a weekend of bobsledding, après ski bars, and mountain biking.

First day

Park City dominates when it comes to accessibility when compared to other mountain locations. Fly into Salt Lake City International Airport and drive up the hill in 45 minutes with a shuttle (or rent a car). Before venturing outside to breathe in all that fresh air, check into the chic Washington School House Hotel in the heart of Park City. With plenty of time to browse the stores and art galleries, a stroll down Main Street offers a fair introduction to the town's history and architecture.

For top-notch salads, expertly grilled steaks, and consistently friendly service, visit Riverhorse on Main. If you decide to go out afterward, the century-old No Name Saloon is similar to your neighborhood dive pub but has a fireplace, antler chandeliers, and greater people-watching.

2nd day

To make it to the slopes, get up early. America's largest ski resort, Park City Mountain Resort, with 7,300 skiable acres and 41 chair lifts, is presently located in Park City. While intermediates should flock to the King Con Express to lap the blues, powderhounds will adore Jupiter Bowl. For a meal on the mountain, try Cloud Dine, or choose salads and wraps at the Silver Star Café at the base.

The skiers-only Deer Valley, which is only 5 minutes from town, has a tonne of well-kept ski routes. Don't miss a sleigh ride to the Viking Yurt on Park City Mountain, where you'll be treated to a six-course feast at 8,700 feet if you happen to be in Park City from December to March.

Deer Valley offers three distinct chair lifts that provide access to its 70 miles of mountain bike trails during the summer. The only ski-in, the ski-out distillery in the nation is High West Distillery & Saloon, where you can take a tour, enjoy substantial dishes like pretzels with whipped beer cheese, and sample award-winning whiskeys like the Campfire, a smokey blend of Scotch, bourbon, and rye.

A third day

Atticus Tea is a small independent bookstore where you may purchase tea, Millcreek Salt Lake City coffee, and baked goodies. At the Utah Olympic Park, choose a different adventure if you've had your fill of biking and skiing. The Comet Bobsled, a rollercoaster that takes thrill-seekers through 18 hairpin turns on the official Olympic sliding track, is the real star of this relic of the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games from 2002. This heart-pounding activity is available year-round, but it's not for the faint of heart.

Leave your Olympic hopes at home and head back to Park City to try the Mexican cuisine at El Chubasco, a relaxed cantina where you can place your order at the counter and enjoy lunch. Check out the afternoon's events in town or visit the Homestead Crater, a geothermal spring tucked away under a 55-foot-tall limestone rock that has the shape of a beehive and is located approximately 30 minutes from Park City. Swimmers can enjoy the 95-degree water, go snorkeling, or even take a yoga session on a paddleboard. Alternately, if you want to spend a lot of money, spend the afternoon being pampered at the renowned St. Regis Deer Valley Remède Spa (the hot poultice massage is heavenly).

Check out Handle, one of Park City's newest eateries that are generating excitement, for supper. Handle, a restaurant at the base of Main Street, offers delicious trout sausage, fried chicken, and a fantastic caramel pudding for dessert. Check the schedule and cap the night with a performance at the renowned Egyptian Theatre in Park City, one of the most well-known Sundance Film Festival locations.
