The Santa Ynez Valley is made up of six distinct settlements, and you should get to know them all.

You may locate the ideal place to sleep for the night in the Santa Ynez Valley, whether your preferred excursions are lakeside camping, RV road trips, casual hotels, or upscale boutiques. Your options for daytime activities are also rather varied, ranging from formal dining and wine tasting to hiking and horseback riding, with much in between.

The Santa Ynez Valley communities provide world-class vineyards, craft breweries, mountain biking, hiking trails, waterfalls, history, and seaside breezes, and are about two hours north of Los Angeles and around four hours south of San Francisco. Seafood from the Pacific is only minutes away, while nearby farms, orchards, and ranches provide the freshest ingredients for neighborhood eateries.

The Santa Ynez Valley is made up of six villages, each of which is distinctive. With its Danish bakery and architecture, Solvang transports you thousands of miles away to northern Europe, while Old West-style Santa Ynez transports you back around 100 years. Established in the 1860s, laid-back Los Olivos is remembered by historic structures and Victorian residences as a stop along the stagecoach route. Breweries, vineyards, and the unusual attraction of Ostrichland are all available in Buellton. Los Alamos displays its western past, and the "Little Red Schoolhouse," a top-performing institution founded in 1883, is located in the small town of Ballard.

Horseback Riding

From riding a horse and hiking to seeing wineries and tasting wines

The Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Barbara County can produce premium Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, and other varieties thanks to their fertile soil, temperate climate, and distinctive geography that allows ocean breezes and foggy mornings to enhance grape growing. Most wineries provide tours and wine samples, however, making reservations is advised.

In addition to camping, Cachuma Lake, a reservoir on the Santa Ynez River, also provides fishing, hiking, and nature walks. After a horseback ride through the vineyards, mountains, and hills, a wine tasting is an option. Rent a bike and explore on two wheels, or sign up for a daylong or longer biking tour. Wherever your trip to the Santa Ynez Valley takes you, you won't want to leave because of how beautiful the rolling hills, vineyards, and roadside trees are.
