The Top 8 Piccadilly Restaurants

2023-04-07  Diana Solomon

From celebrity chefs preparing British staples to creative fare nearby London's famed screens

It's hard to label any Piccadilly eatery as a true "secret." Since the neighborhood attracts millions of tourists each year and serves as a business center every week, these London eateries never have a shortage of foot traffic or hungry customers to serve. But away from the bright lights and ease of major restaurants and large bars, this part of London can continue to surprise. These are our current fave restaurants that are close to Piccadilly Circus, from bookings that exceed the budget to secret locations that defy inflation.

Temple in Ikoyi

Best for Creative cuisine created using spices from West Africa and beyond.

At St. James's Market, Ikoyi established a good name for itself. Ikoyi's bigger location, which is now tucked away on the streets of Temple, builds upon its previous earthy copper and butter-yellow furnishings. As light shines in the curving walls and steel mesh ceilings optimize the area, further dramatic design features are evident. The sampling lunch or dinner menus, which fluctuate with hyper-seasonal and local foods that are offered in their best state, mirror the modernism of the setting. Dishes like the smoked beef paired with coal-roasted pumpkin or the crowd-pleasing plantain adorned with roasted peanut and served with a spicy efo emulsion reflect the experience and approaches to the flavor of Superchef Jeremy Chan. You may choose from five or eight-course wine or tea pairings, or you can choose one of their well-balanced cocktails, such as the malt & apricot sour created with ogogoro and barley. Booking is crucial since reservations start opening two months in advance to fulfill demand. Ingrid Dovi

Quaglino’s

With two bars, a private dining room, and a jazz ensemble, Quaglino's exudes glitz and grandeur. As I made my way down the stairs and into the dining room, I couldn't help but feel as though I was living out my Great Gatsby fantasy. The Art Deco decor that covers the walls of this historic establishment helps to further this ambiance. The food is classic and elegant, as one would anticipate from a restaurant that has hosted royalty. Imagine tender duck breast combined with sweet, acidic mandarin marmalade, roasted Highland venison with piney Juniper, and a luscious blueberry and white chocolate crème brûlée to top it all off. It's how Quaglino brings traditional flavors to life. Quaglino's is the ideal location whether you're seeking an adventure while visiting London or a unique celebration supper. Port Amber

Coya Mayfair

This year marks the tenth anniversary of Coya Mayfair in Piccadilly, a Peruvian restaurant renowned for its delectable food and striking interior design. Following a 2020 refurbishment, its interiors are as colorfully extravagant as ever, with a riot of wall carvings in the style of the Inca and greenery with gold leaves reminiscent of the Amazon that glistens in low lighting while the DJ cranks the bass. The menu maintains high standards and offers sophisticated Peruvian cuisine with Japanese and Spanish influences. Never to be surpassed by the surroundings. A few standouts include the miso-glazed lubina chilena sea bass and the citrusy conchas tiradito, which has scallops, olives, and corn. The blue prawn ceviche and the citrusy conchas tiradito are also noteworthy. The huancana hot tomato and cheese sides are always a hit with the crowd. They are lavishly coated with crispy, spicy potatoes. Best of all, the pisco drinks created by the mixologists will guarantee that the evening starts or closes on a pleasantly sour note. 4 Hide

Hide

Beautifully glitzy restaurants are common in Mayfair. However, Ollie Dabbous' Hide may be the most stunning and lustrous of any of them. A sweeping walnut-colored staircase connects each floor of the three-story building, which is located directly on Piccadilly. As soon as you push through the massive door, despite being located on one of London's busiest streets, you feel secluded from any frantic activity. The crew has achieved the holy grail of eating out by creating a lively place where you can hear your companions perfectly without being able to hear a word from the tables around you. Sharp personnel will accompany you into the light-filled dining area. Here, food is pure work of art. At dinner, deer grilled over fire is garnished with smoked walnut praline and cranberry puree. At brunch, avocado toast is topped with perfectly formed flowers produced on-site. The vast wine list, basement bar, and private dining room are all present, but the real charm of this place is that nothing is stuffy or frightening. A unique location for a unique summer that you must visit once. James Sarah

5 Bar Kroketa

Bar Kroketa

From Piccadilly Circus, take the side streets beyond Golden Square to find Bar Kroketa, one of London's trendiest upscale restaurants. The all-day eating establishment, a fresh idea from the people behind the Spanish restaurant chain Brindisa, gives this Soho nook an original, vibrant flair. Enter by the bar, where you'll see sociable foodies sipping cool Cava and swirling warming glasses of rich Spanish reds while they look for something to eat after work. There are only a few tables in the rear that provide a view of the kitchen activities. Croquettes are the preferred dish here, as the name implies. The warm, creamy middle of the crispy gammon croquettes is comfort food at its best. While king prawn croquettes served with prawn head aioli were popular at our table, crab, and lemon croquettes act as palate cleansers. Larger, more substantial servings were served, including the crab toastie and the hot-flush-inducing patatas bravas. The toastie is perfect for sharing between two people because it arrives hot and dripping with bechamel sauce. Even though Bar Kroketa doesn't serve many sweets, it will be a marvel if there is still room after this meal for a deep-fried ball of salted caramel chocolate. Ira Sturges

6 Cicchetti London Piccadilly

Cicchetti London Piccadilly

In Cicchetti's snug dining room, which is frequently crowded with celebratory meals reserved in advance, restless Regent Street shoppers, and hungry visitors who come from Piccadilly Circus nearby, it's uncommon to see an empty table. Fresh pasta shells, hanging Serrano ham legs, lemons with beautiful yellow rinds, and fresh fish are all displayed in the windows. The menu will lure you in if the window display doesn't. Shareable plates are intended for use. Freshly baked bruschetta topped with ripe tomatoes and a creamy burrata ball wrapped in parma ham is a good place to start. There are several options for main dishes; we particularly enjoyed the pan-fried breaded flattened chicken breast known as Pollo Milanese, the delicious baked Melanzane parmigiana, and the truffle ravioli smothered in creamy pecorino. Don't skip dessert; you must have the rich pistachio cake with white chocolate and fresh fruit drizzled. It is necessary to end with an aperitif from Italy. Toby Knight

Gaucho

The chain's glitzy flagship restaurant, Gaucho Piccadilly, excels in cooking classic carnivorous dishes. The beef used in these steaks is 100 percent carbon offset, which is just one of the numerous activities taking place behind the scenes. Best of all, the steaks come with sustainable credentials. Enjoy rump, sirloin, and fillet steaks, or choose something more opulent like a chateaubriand to split or the tira de ancho spiral-cut slow-grilled with chimichurri. Of course, choosing a steak is just the start. Put rich béarnaise and blue cheese sauces on the meat and pile on sides like creamy mashed potatoes, truffle mac and cheese, and fried oyster mushrooms. In addition to breakfasts, Sunday roasts, and special events, there is a children's menu with a smaller steak and numerous additional meals. Ira Sturges

8 JACK HARDY

The Ritz

Of all the eateries on Piccadilly, this one doesn't require an introduction. It opulent restaurant, a London tradition, maybe the city's glitziest location to go for a celebration supper or a stunning date night. Interior features include golden cornices, hanging chandeliers, the most opulent gold-toned floor-to-ceiling draperies, and a ceiling painted a cerulean blue with fluffy wisps of cloud, to mention a few. Naturally, the restaurant is adept at making a cuisine stand out after almost 120 years in business. For the first and second courses, there are five alternatives, yet it might be difficult to pick just one of each. For instance, the main course of lobster is served with delicious Delica pumpkin and is topped with smoked butter. On the other hand, the main course of duck is topped with juicy apricots, flaked almonds, and lavender. No meal at the Ritz is complete without an aperitif, which should be a glass of the restaurant's Champagne of the month. However, if you're feeling confused about which drinks to order with your chosen meals, a sommelier is happy to help. Finish off the evening with a cheese plate or dessert from the cart, however, the rich chocolate soufflé bearing the recognizable Ritz emblem is a treat you won't find anywhere else. Theo Morelli

The Ritz is located at 150 Piccadilly, London, W1J 9BR.
