Activities this weekend in London, from April 3 to April 9, 2023

2023-04-05  Diana Solomon

See our comprehensive guide to the finest things to do in London all year long for additional suggestions; however, please double-check what is available before traveling.

We come up with a ton of activities to do in London every week, including methods to help the city's small businesses. These are our best suggestions this week, which range from cultural events to culinary gatherings.

What to do this weekend in London

1. Get foodie with Fortnum & Mason

1. Try Fortnum & Mason's cuisine

This spring, Fortnum & Mason offers a variety of treats. Keep an eye out for intriguing partnerships and events in the open-plan kitchen on the third level of St. James's flagship shop, where a newly renovated food and drink studio is now available. This space is perfect for immersive tasty experiences. Before purchasing a container of craft gin at the far end, observe specialists at work in the micro-distillery. You can also take a look inside an iconic hamper in advance of picnic season. The Diamond Jubilee Tea Parlour also hosts a brand-new afternoon tea in honor of King Charles III's impending crowning. The menu features creative variations on some of the King's favorite foods, such as a wooded wild mushroom éclair and sandwiches with cucumber, pickled pea, and horseradish.

Fortnum & Mason can be found at 181 Piccadilly, St. James's, London, W1A 1ER.

Internet address: fortnumandmason.com

The cost of afternoon tea starts at £75 per individual.

Dates: Now open

2. Catch a multi-sensory screening

2. Watch a multi-sensory screening

For two weeks, Bang & Olufsen will offer a singular theatrical experience to London's moviegoers. Tom Sellers, the creator of the Michelin-starred restaurant story, has created a tasting menu for moviegoers at Knightsbridge's Smallbone Luxury Pavilion. Appetizers like crab tarts and glazed chicken livers are followed by meals like scallop ceviche, citrus koshu, and wagyu with celeriac and smoked bone marrow sauce. Popcorn will be available for the screenings of Elvis, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Top Gun: Maverick in the 20-seat theater.

Address: 197-205 Brompton Road, London SW3 1LB, Smallbone Luxury Pavillion

Price: Starting at £250; £275 includes a sampling of intoxicating beverages.

Dates: April 5–9; April 12–16

3. Savour a designer coffee

3. Savour a designer coffee

The distinction of London's swankiest coffee establishment has a new rival. Prada Caffè is intended to give the famous fashion company, located in the capital's high-end shopping haven, Harrods, a fresh perspective. Prada's trademark green dominates the velvet-upholstered couches, padded seats, walls, and ceiling, and the logo-heavy decor (except Prada sugar packets and more) makes it obvious who controls the space. The floral bas-reliefs on the walls bring to mind other Prada flagship shops around the globe, while the black-and-white striped floors are a tribute to the famous Prada emporium on Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. Once you see the delectable variety, you'll probably be back to pick up a tiramisu or two anyhow. Stay a while for eggs florentine or gather croissants filled with mozzarella and succulent tomatoes to go.

Address: 87-135 Brompton Road, London SW1X 7XL, Prada Caffè, Harrods

Available through Sunday, January 7, 2024

4. Satiate your sweet tooth

4. Feed your sugar craving

In honor of a brand-new holiday selection of treats, Hummingbird Bakery is doing what it does best: luring us back to its sweet-smelling shops. The rabbit ear cake is an (almost) too-cute-to-eat confection once the soft multicolored sponge is exposed beyond the vanilla buttercream, while the creme egg cheesecake is a hit with the whole family. Otherwise, cupcake selection cases are a wonderful addition to any Easter celebration when they are adorned with hand-decorated spring blossoms, Malteaser rabbits, and crème eggs. Looking forwards to the crowning of King Charles III in May? A vibrant selection is currently offered for purchase.

5. Eat chocolate mousse (for charity)

5. Indulge in the chocolate pudding (for charity)

Do you enjoy both fine dining and chocolate? This Easter, you can find us snug in an eatery run by the Big Mamma Group because we most definitely are. The introduction of London's most decadent chocolate mousse is yet another cause to reserve a table or at least attempt to. They've already given us pizzas that look like works of art, towering portions of lemon meringue pie, and spaghetti with truffles atop it. One pound from each sale of the dessert—which was developed in partnership with fellow B-Corp Tony's Chocolonely—will be given to the Tony's Chocolonely Foundation, which supports initiatives aimed at ending modern enslavement in West Africa.

Dates: April 5–12

6. Get stuck in at a trendy pop-up

6. Get stuck in at a trendy pop-up

The sadness in foodies' expressions was evident when Delli's pop-up in Brixton Village came to an end. Thankfully, a second supper club stay is underway at The Truman Brewery in East London, so grins are once again on the menu. The Delli mobile software allows users to directly schedule events. This Thursday, Ben's Vegan Kitchen will be cooking up a five-course Passover Kosher feast.

Address: 91 Brick Lane, The Truman Brewery, London, E1 6QL

Activities cost about £40.

Until April 16, 2019.

7. Learn about the art of Kumihumo

7. Become familiar with Kumihumo art.

At the thriving cultural center on Kensington High Street known as Japan House, a vibrant show is currently on view. For the first time in the UK, a show called Kumihumo: Japanese Silk Braiding by Domyo explores this age-old craft that is still used today. The term "kimihimo" alludes to the braided thread, and modern works are praised for their aesthetic beauty. Historically, the technique was used to join samurai armor or give kimonos the final touch. The display was organized by Yusoku Kumihimo Dmy (Domyo), a workshop with a history of producing braided silk cords by hand since 1652, and is best of all made by industry experts. Ueno is a historic shopping and entertainment area in central Tokyo.

Japan House London is located at 101–111 Kensington High Street in London, W8 5SA.

Queue up and fill up for a lavish weekend of festivities because the entire selection is on show alongside the limited-edition desserts.

The best taco and drink hideaway in the city is open again for the rooftop season. Before the Easter weekend, The Lucky Club Camden will reopen and host a five-day celebration to stake its claim among London's finest rooftop pubs and terraces. Get your fill of loaded burritos, deep-fried artichoke tacos, tropical cocktails, and chilled daiquiris, among other delectable new menu items. Inflation-fighting fortunate hours include two £12 cocktails on Tuesdays in addition to happy hour prices for drinks from 9 p.m. until closing this weekend.

This Easter, families should head to the Chelsea Physic Garden where a unique path built for all sizes of explorers winds through four acres. Learn about the amazing world of plants and introduce aspiring horticulturists to uncommon species that have been essential to the development of gardening, food, and medication. Children receive a treat or prize after the path to help them on their way home.

12. Enjoy BBQ flavors

This Easter weekend, the weather is expected to shine, which can only be taken to indicate that grilling season has arrived. Due to a six-month stay by From the Ashes BBQ, The Ram in South London is the place to be if the idea of toiling over the coals doesn't appeal. Light appetizers to nibble on before meaty mains like the Guinness and treacle glazed smoked short-rib or pork chops doused in South Carolina BBQ sauce include beer battered house pickles, nduja scotch eggs, and pork tacos.

The Ram is located at 68 Wandsworth High Street in London SW18 4LB.
